Volunteering Opportunities

Gardening Buddies is Looking for Volunteers

Gardening Buddies is a Volunteer Gardening Service for people in the local area, and they're looking for volunteers.

The aim is to create a team of local volunteers to support people living at home, who love their gardens, but are no longer able to manage the upkeep themselves.

They're looking for keen gardeners who have their own gardening tools, and their own transport. Typical gardening tasks may include grass cutting, tidying borders, and pruning shrubs and low hedges. The work will be light and safe, with nothing too strenuous. Just as important, volunteers will provide a friendly face and companionship, to help brighten someone’s day.

Also needed, is a small group of administration volunteers to help with managing and co-ordinating volunteers, allocating gardening requests, carrying out basic risk assessments, supporting the smooth running of the service and assisting with finances, safeguarding, and volunteer training.

Whether you can spare a few hours a week, or would like to be more involved, any help would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in helping, please get in touch with Keith, at gardeningbuddies@yahoo.com.

The Dorothy House Shop Needs Helpers

Our friends at The Dorothy House Shop in The Old Swan Yard are on the lookout for helpers. They're short of volunteers to help out on the shop floor, and with serving customers.

The shifts are normally half-days, and you'll get twenty-five per cent off purchases.

It's a chance to be a part of a great team, and to support a very worthy cause.

If you're interested, please pop into the shop any time, or call them on Devizes 729 355.

Julian House Needs Shop Volunteers

The Julian House Charity Shop needs more volunteers, to man the shop, and to open on more days of the week.

If you're interested, please pop into the shop, at number six, The Brittox for a chat. They promise to supply you with tea, coffee, and biscuits.

The opening hours are currently 9am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday, but they hope to open on Mondays, and possibly Sundays, if sufficient volunteers come forward.

Devizes Link Need Volunteer Drivers

Devizes Link are a group of dedicated volunteers who take passengers on important journeys to hospitals and similar places.

They are desperately short of drivers, and are urgently looking for more. There is a payment for the mileage incurred, from your home, to the appointment, and back. Your time is freely given and it makes you feel good, as you have helped a person in need.

If you think you are able to help with this, please email Roger at rogergshort@gmail.com.

Volunteers Needed for The Youth Lounge

The Youth Lounge in Sidmouth Street is always looking for volunteers to assist with the running of it.

If you're interested in helping with this venture, please get in contact with Steve Dewer at the Lounge. It's at number twenty-five Sidmouth Street.

Volunteers Needed at Kennet Furniture Refurbiz

Napoleon said that an army marches on its stomach, but a charity runs on tea, biscuits, and brilliant volunteers.

Kennet Furniture Refurbiz, on The Hopton Industrial Estate, and better known as just KFR, is on the lookout for more brilliant volunteers. They have a mission, to get good furniture and white goods to people who need them, fast, friendly, and with minimal faff.

They're always in need of volunteers who lift sofas like legends, sort donations like professionals, make tea strong enough to revive their delivery drivers, and occasionally wrestle with a fridge which refuses to fit through a door.

Core roles include sales and customer service; IT communications; marketing and social media; cleaning; and repairing white goods and furniture.

In return, KFR will reimburse your out of pocket expenses, may also be able to offer further training and support for your role, and help you gain paid employment.

If you're over sixteen, and you've got a few spare hours, a good sense of humour, and a heart for helping, they'd love to have you on the team. Please email their Volunteer Coordinator at jensf@kfr.org.uk for further information.
